How to use the Marks Percentage Calculator
Choose optional grade thresholds
A percentage needs no grading system. Enable your own thresholds only if you want a grade label, including a threshold starting at zero.
Inspect the calculation
Check total obtained marks divided by total maximum marks, multiplied by 100. The result shows every subject and the totals.
How this tool works
Percentage = sum of obtained marks / sum of maximum marks × 100. Custom grades use the highest minimum threshold met; labels and cutoffs must be unique and one threshold must start at 0%.

Limits, edge cases, and troubleshooting
Combine exam or assignment marks with different maxima without giving a small quiz the same weight as a larger exam.

- Totals must remain within supported finite arithmetic bounds.
- Extra credit above a subject maximum is not supported.
- Institutional pass conditions and GPA conversions are not inferred.

Implementation checked on 2026-09-16. Unit tests and local browser checks covered 125/150 = 83.333333…%, different subject maxima and obtained marks above the maximum. Unit tests also covered custom grade thresholds and boundary scores; narrow layouts were checked.

Is this an average of subject percentages?
No. It divides total obtained marks by total maximum marks. A subject out of 100 contributes twice the possible marks of a subject out of 50.
Does the grade match my university?
A grade appears only when you supply your own thresholds. Subject pass conditions, classifications and GPA conversion are not inferred.
